Keeping Soil Healthy During The Winter

Many gardeners find it difficult during the winter months. It’s very hard to grow crop as your soil is tired and cold during the winter season. We’ve found that planting a good winter cover is a great way to keep your soil warm, whilst it also helps replenish the nutrients in the soil.

A good example of a good winter cover are oats or even rye and ryegrass. These can be planted after your final good crop of the year is done.

Oats are great for absorbing nutrients whilst also storing them. They also provide a layer of mulch which protects the soil from freezing during the coldest spells. When Spring arrives, just clear the mulch and you’re ready to go again.
