If you want an idea to enhance your garden, an attractive addition to any garden whether large or small is a garden pond or water feature but how easy is it to install these features in a garden?
The first thing to decide is what size you want your pond to be. If your garden is small, then a small pond would be better whereas a larger garden could accommodate a larger pond with additional features such as a stream or waterfall. The shape of the pond is also a factor to be planned. It may be that a circular pond looks best in the space although many people choose a kidney shaped pond.
When you have decided on the size and shape of your pond you will need to decide on the type of pond you want. A wildlife pond which has soft edges with lots of planting allows frogs and toads easy access or you may prefer a more formal feature with a slabbed edging or even a raised edge.
Some people are wary about keeping fish in the pond as they worry about caring for them. It is a good idea to have common species of fish to start with as they are hardier than more specialist types. If you do decide to have fish, you will need to have a filter system in place to keep the water in good condition.
