When gardening, one of the most important things to do is to make sure you use the right type of soil for the plants and flowers you are growing. This is one of the most common mistakes that new gardeners make and it will impact heavily on your garden. If you plant a bulb in the wrong type of soil, it either will not grow, or it will grow weak and unhealthy.
The first thing to do is to test your soil pH level. You can buy a simple testing kit to do this. Take a sample and add the sample to the solution and see what the results are. A pH level of 7 is considered to be neutral. Acidic soil’s pH level will be lower than this, and alkaline will be higher.
Once you know what type of soil you have, work with it. If plants need different conditions, e.g. ericaceous soil, plant them in containers.
