The trend for the garden to be an extension of a properties living space continues to grow as more and more people install lighting, cosy garden furniture, barbeques and hot tubs in their gardens. Large gazebos or awnings create areas that can be used even if the weather is wet so that these areas can still be enjoyed despite the unpredictable British weather.

One feature that can add interest to any garden is a pond which could be simply a small, raised feature on the patio or decking or a larger wildlife pond with a stream and waterfall. This will depend on the space you have available in the garden.

Some people are concerned about having a pond because they are anxious about the maintenance but once the pond is set up initially the ongoing upkeep can be minimal, and the pleasure far outweighs the effort required to keep the pond looking good.

Once you have decided on the type of pond you want the construction of it may be something you can attempt yourself or you may want to pay someone to do this for you. You will need to think about the type of plants that you want to have both in the pond and around the edges bearing in mind that they may grow substantially.
